For the first time, Silkworm cocoon enters into export records for Rwanda

Rwanda is promoting sub sectors that in a participatory development arena will enhance exports promotion.

Through the National Sericulture Centre (NSC); a special unit of Single Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) working under the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI), SEDAM Co Ltd, a Korean Company signed a contract of Cocoons purchasing on 13th February 2014.

This event was presided over by Amb. George William KAYONGA; the Director General of National Agriculture Export Development Board (NAEB) as a mandated institution to insure agricultural exports in Rwanda, on behalf of MINAGRI and Ms. Sun-Ran PARK on behalf of SEDAM Co Ltd .  

Prepared for long time, the signing process has been also an occasion to purchase a 2 years produced 2 grades cocoons. For first grade, 788.4 kg were sold at USD 10 per kilo, amounting to USD 7884.For second grade, 3097 kg were sold at USD 6 per kilo, amounting to USD 18.582.The total sales amounted to USD 26.466 for 2 grades. 

The company will continue purchasing all cocoons produced in Rwanda throughout the  year 2014 and subsequent  years. The signing ceremony between two parties took place at Lemigo Hotel; NAEB was represented by its Director General, and on other side Ms. Sun-Ran PARK, Chief Executive Officer represented the SEDAM Co.Ltd.

In cocoon production at farmer level, Rwanda and International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) support in mulberry plantations and cocoons productions with necessary capacity building.
