Fruit Logistica, a bridge of Rwandafresh brand to the European market.

Fourteen horticulture producing-exporting companies have attended the 27th edition of Fruit Logistica Expo in Berlin, Germany as part of efforts to explore new markets in Europe for Rwandan fresh produce. This three-day trade fair that was launched today will be an opportunity for the Rwanda delegation to boost Rwanda's export volumes and foreign exchange receipts.

Since 2012, Rwanda has been participating in this fresh fruits and veggies show to accelerate the growth of horticulture sector in Rwanda. “This has paid off but we still have a long journey to go. That’s why we still participate to create international market linkages for our products.” Said Cynthia Uwacu, the Export Market Development and Innovation Division Manager at NAEB. “We are here to promote the Rwanda Fresh brand on the global market.” She added.

It is expected that the delegation will gain appropriate knowledge and information on prevailing global trends in horticulture sector development.

The Rwandan horticulture exports showed a positive growth during 2018-2019 Financial Year. According to the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) statistical report (2018-2019) on performance of agri-exports sector, horticultural export revenues increased by 16% from USD 27,174,785 in 2018-2019 compared to USD 23,439,874 earned during 2017-2018 financial year. Out of the total horticultural revenues earned in the financial year 2018/2019, fruits contributed a 30.9% while vegetables contributed a significant 57.5%.

Fruit Logistica is a global fresh produce trade show held annually in February in the Messe Berlin Exhibition Grounds. It is expected that 3,300 exhibiting companies and organisations from about 90 countries will attend it.

Rwandafresh stand (#C31) is sited in Hall 26 where the delegation from Rwanda provide the booth visitors with information that could mobilise more foreign investors willing to import and invest in the country’s horticulture sector.
