Handover ceremony between the former acting and the new Director General of NAEB

Yesterday, a handover ceremony took place between the former acting Director General Mr. Ntakirutimana Corneille and the newly appointed Director General Ambassador Kayonga George William at NAEB headquarters.

The ceremony was presided over by the chairman of board of Directors Dr. Mbonigaba Jean Jacques who was representing the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources who thanked the former acting DG and DDG in charge of production for the good work done during his term and welcomed the incoming Director General and requested everyone to cooperate so as to achieve the objective.

 

Among other dignitaries that were present during this ceremony were: other board members, management of NAEB and Mr. Rurangwa Raphael DG Planning MINAGRI

During the handover ceremony, both the former acting DG and the Chairman of board of directors  emphasized on areas that need more attention in different subsectors, and these include:
In Tea subsector there is tea expansion program, its challenges and the urgent action needed.


For coffee subsector, there is a need for increasing its production and productivity and this can be achieved by planting 25 millions of coffee seedlings on annual basis, availability of organic fertilizers from coffee pulp on CWS in operational period to improve coffee productivity to mention but a few.


In as far as horticulture and diversification are concerned; there is Gishari flower park project, pyrethrum development, sericulture and their challenges.

After signing the handover documents, the chairman urged all members present to full accord support to the new DG for him and the entire community of NAEB to attain its goal and ensure success in his future endeavor. Then after a cocktail to celebrate and welcome the new DG and also thanking the former acting DG was organized by NAEB staffs.


During the cocktail NAEB staffs took the opportunity to offer a recognition certificates to two staffs who have been working with NAEB since 1970 and 1974 Mrs. Helen KAYIGANWA and MUSEMAKWELI Phenias who have recently retaired from their duties after over 40 years. It was also an occasion to congratulate one of NAEB former staff Hon. Tengera Frances who was given a site in the parliament as deputy.
