Rwanda Tea returns with its unique taste in Tour du Rwanda 2021

Rwanda Tea has for the 5th time returned for the annual International Cycling Competition, Tour du Rwanda which kicks off on Sunday, May 2, 2021.

Since 2017, Rwanda Tea has been partnering with the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) as a top sponsor, considering the fact that Tour du Rwanda is an important platform through which the Rwanda Tea brand can be seen and recognised by the world’s tea consumers.

Over the past four editions, tea consumers, especially cycling spectators were able to get a first-hand experience of Rwanda Tea, sampling different brands and varieties at every starting and finishing point of the 8-stage tour which attracts some of the most competitive cyclists in the world.

Tour du Rwanda is also an opportunity to encourage Rwandans to taste and drink their very own tea, which they grow themselves, rather than seeing it as a product for export. It is an opportunity to promote the local tea consumption as a healthy practice.

“We want more Rwandans to enjoy Rwanda Tea because it is their own. During Tour du Rwanda, we consistently see an upsurge in the consumption and appreciation of Rwanda Tea by visitors, including cyclists and we hope to see the same this year, even as we continue to observe measures to contain COVID-19,” said Philbert Shumbusho, the manager of Rwandan Tea Cooperatives Federation (FERWACOTHE).

During this week-long race, a variety of Rwanda Tea – Black CTC, Green and Orthodox Tea, both organic and non-organic will be showcased and served to cyclists and participants, where interested consumers will be able to place their orders from the sixteen Rwandan tea processing factories.

The 13th edition of Tour du Rwanda, which is categorized as a 2.1 race by International Cycling Union (UCI), takes place from May 2-9. A total of 16 teams are participating in this year’s edition.
